Zelensky, Macron agree on new French deliveries of aircraft and air defense missiles

Following a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine will soon receive additional generators from France, and that further deliveries of aircraft and missiles for air defense systems are expected this year.

Zelensky announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

“Of course, we discussed how to strengthen our energy resilience. In the near future, Ukraine will receive generators from France. There will also be additional deliveries this year of French aircraft, missiles for air defense systems, and aerial bombs,” Zelensky said following the talks.

He also briefed Macron on the frontline situation and Russian losses.

The Ukrainian president thanked his French counterpart for expressing condolences over Russian strikes on civilians, including the shelling of a passenger train in the Kharkiv region.

Zelensky and Macron also discussed diplomatic efforts, including meetings in Abu Dhabi and potential upcoming engagements. “We also addressed the matter of countering Russia’s shadow fleet. Emmanuel spoke about the relevant legislative work, and we are counting on important decisions,” Zelensky emphasized.

For his part, Macron wrote on social media platform X after the conversation that France and its partners are mobilized to help Ukraine in the energy sector.

“Following the G7+ meeting, co-chaired by France, generators will be sent to Ukraine to help the population get through the winter. France’s position is clear: we will support Ukraine for as long as necessary so that it can defend itself and repel the aggressive war waged by Russia,” Macron stressed.

The French President “with the utmost determination” condemned Russian strikes on civilians and energy infrastructure, calling the recent attack on a passenger train in the Kharkiv region unacceptable.

He assured that Ukraine can count on France within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing.

“We continue to work to create the conditions for a just and lasting peace that will guarantee the security of Ukraine and of Europe. We discussed the progress of the negotiations that began last week in Abu Dhabi. We reached the shared conclusion that Europeans must be fully involved in discussions that directly concern them,” Macron added.

As reported, earlier in January, President Macron held closed consultations with representatives of parliamentary parties regarding the possible deployment of several thousand French troops to Ukraine after the conclusion of a peace agreement.
