Nawrocki: Partners have not forgotten Ukraine because of Greenland

Polish President Karol Nawrocki said that the situation around Greenland does not mean that partners have forgotten about Ukraine, stressing that Russia's war remains the main threat.

He stated this during a panel discussion titled "Can Europe Defend Itself?" at the World Economic Forum in Davos, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The problem around Greenland doesn't mean that we don't think about Ukraine. We support Ukraine in Poland, in NATO, in the European Union,; the United States of America has supported Ukraine," Nawrocki said.

According to him, the issue of Ukraine following Russia's attack is extremely important not only for Poland and NATO's eastern flank, but for the entire free world.

"We must consider this problem as the main problem in Europe nowadays," he stated.

He emphasized that countries of Eastern and Central Europe are already feeling the Russian threat amid a hybrid war. Poland will be ready to repel anyone who dares to attack it, the president assured.

Nawrocki noted that Poland has the largest army in Central and Eastern Europe and that Warsaw has increased defense spending to nearly 5% of GDP. At the same time, the United States is an important ally, he added. He credited US President Donald Trump with the fact that most European countries are increasing their military budgets.

At the same time, Nawrocki avoided a direct answer to the question of whose side Poland is on in the dispute over Greenland, noting that he looks at the Greenland issue from the American strategic point of view.

"We have the Chinese. We have the Russians. We feel, in Poland, Russian threat for three centuries... And I think transatlantic relations are very important…And Donald Trump tried to convince our European partners that we have to solidify, and his voice is very important because of the financial, strategic, geopolitical point of view," he explained.

He expressed hope that the issue would be resolved "thanks to all the partners in a diplomatic way."

"I'm looking at Greenland as a strategic point and a geopolitical issue between the free world, the democratic world, independence, and Russia," Nawrocki emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stressed that no circumstances should distract European leaders from supporting Ukraine amid Russian attacks, particularly strikes on energy infrastructure.
