Trump advises European countries to focus on war in Ukraine rather than Greenland

U.S. President Donald Trump refused to comment on whether he would use force to seize Greenland and advised European countries to focus on the war in Ukraine.

He stated this in a brief phone interview with NBC News, Ukrinform reports.

Trump criticized European leaders who are resisting his efforts to acquire Greenland, which he believes is necessary to protect U.S. national security from external threats.

"Europe ought to focus on the war with Russia and Ukraine because, frankly, you see what that's gotten them. That's what Europe should focus on — not Greenland," Trump said.

He declined to comment on whether he would use force to seize Greenland. When asked whether he would implement plans to impose tariffs on European countries if there is no agreement on Greenland, Trump replied, "I will, 100%."

Trump also rejected the view that Norway has no influence over the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize and that the decision rests entirely with the committee.

"Norway totally controls it despite what they say. They like to say they have nothing to do with it, but they have everything to do with it," he told NBC News.

Trump repeated his earlier view regarding the Nobel Prize, saying that through his peacemaking efforts he stopped eight wars and saved many lives, which he said is a greater reward.

"I do not care about the Nobel Prize," he said.

As Ukrinform reported, the European Union is considering the introduction of counter-tariffs on U.S. goods worth up to EUR 93 billion in response to the U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threats related to the Greenland issue.
