U.S. tariffs on allies completely wrong – Starmer
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose tariffs on allies over their position on Greenland “completely wrong.”
According to Ukrinform, Starmer said this in comments reported by the BBC.
“Applying tariffs on allies for pursuing the collective security of NATO allies is completely wrong. We will of course be pursuing this directly with the US administration,” the British prime minister stressed.
Starmer emphasized that the UK’s position on Greenland is very clear: “It is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and its future is a matter for the Greenlanders and the Danes," he said in a statement.
“We have also made clear that Arctic Security matters for the whole of NATO and allies should all do more together to address the threat from Russia across different parts of the Arctic,” he added.
As reported by Ukrinform, Donald Trump announced the introduction of a 10% tariff from February 1 on goods from Denmark and seven other European countries, including the United Kingdom, over their refusal to negotiate the purchase of Greenland by the United States.
