Zelensky prepares SBI overhaul
President Volodymyr Zelensky has instructed that proposals to update the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) be prepared and promptly submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Zelensky stated this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"I instructed that proposals for the renewal of the State Bureau of Investigation be prepared and promptly submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," Zelensky said.
He noted that he expects the presidential draft law to be finalized as early as January and immediately submitted to parliament.
As reported earlier, questions regarding the SBI's work were brought to the forefront in connection with the Midas special operation to expose corruption in the energy sector.
During a hearing to choose a preventive measure for one of the suspects, a prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office stated that investigative recordings show members of the criminal organization discussing their contacts with the SBI, as well as the possibility of influencing criminal proceedings through parliamentary inquiries.
At the initiative of SBI Director Oleksii Sukhachov, on November 14, 2025, the Main Investigative Department of the State Bureau of Investigations entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations regarding signs of possible criminal offenses under Part 3 of Article 368 (acceptance of an unlawful benefit on a large scale or by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, or involving extortion) and Part 3 of Article 365 (abuse of power or official authority by a law enforcement officer resulting in grave consequences) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
