Ukraine supports transfer of Belarusian political prisoners through its territory — Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine supported the transfer of Belarusian political prisoners through its territory.
He told journalists this, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Consultations between the countries were held at the level of intelligence services. Subsequently, the Chief of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, reported that the Belarusian side was ready to hand over political prisoners but did not want to do so through other EU countries. If Ukraine agreed, they were prepared to carry out the transfer through our territory. I unequivocally supported this initiative and confirmed our readiness to receive the prisoners, because the issue of political prisoners is important: among them are citizens of Ukraine, and it is necessary to bring back both our own citizens and Belarusian political prisoners,” Zelensky emphasized.
He noted that this is precisely how such decisions are made.
As reported, in Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, following a meeting with the U.S. Special Envoy for Belarus, John Cole, released 123 political prisoners.
