Poturaev on risk of lacking votes for state budget: calls it irresponsible toward state and army
Parliament must not allow the vote on the state budget to be disrupted, as the country's defense capability depends on it. The document can be amended later, but refusing to vote now is unacceptable.
This was emphasized by Mykyta Poturaev, chairman of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, in a comment to Ukrinform.
“We need to pass the budget. This is not a game—we understand that very well. We are talking about the purchase and production of weapons, about funding for the military. It would be better if everyone could reach a consensus in parliament and pass the laws that cannot wait. The budget is one of them,” Poturaev said.
He reminded that, according to the law, the Verkhovna Rada must vote on the state budget as a whole no later than December 1.
“Monday is already December 1. The Ministry of Defense has to sign new contracts for the year. We cannot play around with this. We cannot afford to treat such important matters this way,” the deputy emphasized.
At the same time, he said that there is a risk that on December 2, the Rada will not be able to adopt the state budget due to a lack of votes and the positions of certain deputies and factions.
"I consider such a position irresponsible. Playing political games now is irresponsible. The budget can always be adjusted; we have already done so. It must be adopted now, and then an internal parliamentary audit can be conducted. Changes can be made to the budget at any time and voted on," the head of the parliamentary committee emphasized.
According to him, the key to adopting the budget and other initiatives important for the state is to “sit down and talk with everyone openly, without hiding somewhere in offices behind closed doors, without playing politics, but communicating all issues and finding solutions together.”
As reported by Ukrinform, the chair of the Budget Committee, Roksolana Pidlasa, previously stated that the Rada will consider the draft law on the State Budget of Ukraine for 2026 in the second reading and as a whole on December 2.
The parliamentary faction of the European Solidarity party will not support the draft state budget for 2026 prepared for the second reading unless changes are made to it regarding the allocation of sufficient funds for the needs of the security sector.
