Saakashvili asks Zelensky to add him to list of civilian prisoners of war from Russia
The third president of Georgia and citizen of Ukraine, Mikheil Saakashvili, appealed to President Volodymyr Zelensky to include him in the list of civilian prisoners of war with Russia.
He wrote about this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
"I would like to ask you, as you did in 2019 when you restored my illegally revoked citizenship, to please include me, as the former head of the Odesa Regional State Administration and the head of the Executive Committee of the National Reform Council, who is being illegally detained by the pro-Russian regime in Georgia, in the list of civilian prisoners of this war with the corresponding legal consequences. I know that Ukrainians do not abandon their own, and I am counting on you," Saakashvili said.
He believes that his persecution in Georgia and his fate are linked to the war.
"At first, I was arrested on completely fabricated charges, and the then Prime Minister of Georgia directly stated that this case was related to my activities in Ukraine. In the new criminal case recently brought against me, I and others are accused of sabotage in favor of a foreign enemy state. The case file contains your statements, as well as statements by Mikhail Podolyak. In other words, the illegal Georgian authorities are openly declaring Ukraine an enemy foreign state. And this is not surprising, because from the very beginning of this great war, Russian oligarch Ivanishvili and his servants openly sided with Russia," Saakashvili added.
As reported by Ukrinform, on November 12, Saakashvili was returned to penal colony No. 12 in Georgia to continue serving his sentence.
Saakashvili himself, according to previous convictions, must remain in prison until April 1, 2034.
