Wadephul urges allies to support Ukraine ahead of winter
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has called on Western allies to provide decisive support to Ukraine ahead of the winter, which will be critical.
He made the statement on Monday in Brussels, Ukrinform reports, citing Süddeutsche Zeitung.
“This winter is of crucial importance. Ukraine must remain capable of defending itself,” the publication quotes the German diplomat.
Wadephul noted that the Coalition of the Willing discussed “mobilizing all forces so that Ukraine can withstand this winter.”
The minister emphasized that Germany bears a special responsibility in this regard.
“Ukraine can rely on Germany at any time,” he assured.
Wadephul expressed confidence that the EU summit in December will enable the Ukrainians to use frozen Russian assets. Germany supports consistent steps to ensure that Ukraine has sufficient financial and technical support in its defense against Russia, the German Foreign Minister added.
As reported, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure ahead of winter.
