Zelensky, Trump to meet in Washington on Friday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Friday, October 17.

He said this at a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"I hope I'll have the opportunity to come to Washington and meet with Mr. President [Trump] on Friday. Of course, I also have several other meetings that are important for me, including with some defense companies," Zelensky said.

He added that his schedule also includes "certain meetings with senators and members of Congress."

"The main topic is air defense. And, by the way, I'll also have a meeting with energy companies. This was needed, and it was a proposal from Mr. President," Zelensky said.

Zelensky and Trump held two phone calls over the past weekend.

On Monday, October 13, a Ukrainian delegation led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko arrived in the United States. The visit aims to strengthen Ukraine's air defense and strike capabilities, increase sanctions pressure on Russia, and expand cooperation in the energy sector.
