Zelensky calls for “clear position” from Trump on Russia sanctions, security guarantees for Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to take a “clear position” on a sanctions package against Russia and security guarantees for Ukraine, aiming to stop Russian leader Vladimir Putin and end the war.
The statement was made in an interview with Sky News, according to Ukrinform.
Zelensky emphasized that the only way to halt hostilities is to first establish clear security guarantees. According to him, this can only happen if Trump shows courage.
The Ukrainian President expressed hope that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will discuss in detail with Trump the future security of Ukraine during the U.S. president’s state visit to the United Kingdom this week.
“I very much hope he (Starmer) will be able to have a very specific discussion on the security guarantees of the US for Ukraine. Before we end the war, I really want to have all the agreements in place,” Zelensky said.
He added that he wants a document supported by the U.S. and all European partners, noting: “This is very important.”
“To make this happen, we need a clear position of President Trump,” Zelensky concluded.
As reported by Ukrinform, U.S. President Donald Trump will visit the United Kingdom on a state visit at the invitation of King Charles III. Official events and high-level meetings are scheduled for September 17–18.
