Umerov, Kellogg discuss PURL weapons procurement initiative
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and U.S. President’s Special Envoy Keith Kellogg discussed the PURL initiative during a meeting in Kyiv. The initiative allows financing the procurement of weapons from the United States.
Umerov reported this on Facebook, as cited by Ukrinform.
"Our goal is to involve as many European countries as possible in this initiative. Together, we are strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and reinforcing transatlantic unity," he said.
The discussion also focused on security guarantees for Ukraine and practical steps to enhance them.
Umerov emphasized that Ukraine highly values the steadfast support of the United States as Ukraine’s key strategic partner in the fight for freedom and independence.
As Ukrinform previously reported, the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) is a new mechanism focused on supplying Ukraine with weapons listed as priority needs. It allows NATO member countries to fund deliveries of U.S. weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions.
Eleven countries have already joined the PURL program.
As of September 6, the initiative had raised $2 billion, and President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is working to increase funding for the program.
