Large-scale Russian attacks underscore urgency of security guarantees for Ukraine – Canadian PM
Russia’s large-scale airstrikes against Ukraine underscore the urgent need for reliable security guarantees from allied nations.
As reported by Ukrinform, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made the statement on social media platform X.
“Russia brutally attacked Ukraine last night, killing innocent civilians in residential areas and damaging the Cabinet of Ministers building. My thoughts are with the injured and everyone who is mourning their loved ones. A just and lasting peace for Ukraine will require robust and credible security guarantees. Last night's cowardly attack underscores the urgency of that mission,” Carney stated.
He recalled that during his visit to Kyiv in August, he emphasized—inside the very building damaged in Sunday’s attack—that “Canada stands with Ukraine and Putin’s unrelenting aggression will never weaken our resolve”.
“Canada is steadfast in its commitment to the Coalition of the Willing and its willingness to deploy direct and scalable military assistance in support of upholding a ceasefire and lasting peace,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
As Ukrinform previously reported, on the night of September 7, Russia attacked Ukraine using drones and cruise missiles. The attack on Kyiv claimed two lives and left twenty people wounded.
