Trump threatens Russia with tariffs if it rejects peace deal on Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he is very disappointed with Russia as he could not reach a peace agreement with Putin to end the war, warning that Moscow could face "very severe tariffs" if it does not come to the table.

He made the comments to reporters in the Oval Office during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"I'm disappointed in President Putin, because I thought we would have had a deal two months ago, but it doesn't seem to get there," Trump said.

He added that if a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine is not reached within the next 50 days, he will impose "very severe tariffs" on Russia.

"We're going to be doing secondary tariffs. If we don't have a deal in 50 days, it's very simple. And they'll be at 100 percent, and that's the way it is," Trump said.
