G7 ambassadors concerned about reports of appointments to Accounting Chamber before its reform is completed

The ambassadors of the G7 countries have said they are concerned about reports of possible new appointments to the Accounting Chamber before its reform is completed.

The diplomats said this in a statement on the X social media platform, Ukrinform reports.

"G7 Ambassadors concerned about reports the Rada is rushing 4 new Accounting Chamber appointments this week, before Accounting Chamber reform is completed. Until reform law passed, these appointments would undermine confidence in the institution charged with overseeing international assistance," the ambassadors of the G7 countries said.

The Verkhovna Rada's Budget Committee will soon have a working group on bills to reform the Accounting Chamber with the involvement of EU and U.S. representatives.

G7 ambassadors said earlier that reforming the Accounting Chamber is a chance to show the world that Ukraine is a good steward of international support and its own citizens' resources. The appointment of new leadership should happen only after the passage of legislation that ensures a transparent and merit-based competition with proper vetting.
