President wants to hold phone talks with Prime Minister of India

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky wants to hold a phone conversation with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

"We think that India should play a greater role globally, should play a greater role in the Ukrainian issue. We believe that the first step towards it is the intensification of the political dialogue at the highest level. And this visit is the first step towards this. The goal is – and my President is requesting – a phone conversation with the Prime Minister one day. We are looking forward to welcoming him to Kyiv one day," First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova told CNBC-TV18 in an interview.

She noted that, in addition, Ukraine will be happy to welcome National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and representatives of India’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Dzhaparova, Ukraine believes that New Delhi should be engaged in the Ukrainian issue to a greater extent.

"We think that with India's global role – especially with regards to the presidency in G20, with regards to the influence in the Global South and being a leading country for Asian and African countries – it is important not to escape discussions about Ukraine. It may seem regional here, it may seem distant from here, but it’s not," said the first deputy minister.

As reported, Dzhaparova started her two-day visit to India on Monday.
