China has always maintained contact with all sides, including Ukraine - foreign ministry

China has always maintained communication with all sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, including Kyiv.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said this at a briefing on Monday, commenting on the possibility of a meeting between Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, according to Reuters.

"China's position on the Ukraine crisis is consistent and very clear," she said.

"The core is to call for peace and promote dialogue and promote a political solution to the crisis. We have always maintained communication with the sides involved including Ukraine," Mao said.

On February 24 at a press conference in Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he planned to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

On the first anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published its "position on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis." The document consists of 12 points.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said he did not like all the points of China's peace plan, adding that "we can work" with some of them.
