Shmyhal: Ukraine's accession to EU in coming years is realistic goal

The process of Ukraine's integration into the European Union has been going on for a long time, so Ukraine's accession to the EU in the coming years is quite a realistic goal.

"There are other countries that have passed this way not in ten or twelve, but in five or seven years. We started moving towards the EU not yesterday and not in June of last year. This process of integration has been going on for a long time. Therefore, we believe that this is an ambitious but realistic goal, and we can get a consensus of European states in the near future," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told the Focus German media outlet in an interview.

According to him, the Ukrainians want to live in a European, developed, and civilized country after the war. "And we know exactly what needs to be done for this. We are united in society and the government and, therefore, we can adopt and approve European legislation and regulatory documents very quickly," the Prime Minister added.

As reported, Ukraine received EU candidate status in June 2022. At the same time, the European Commission provided seven recommendations that must be implemented for Ukraine’s further European integration.
