Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal held an online meeting with members of the newly elected United States Congress, having emphasized the importance of sanctions against Russia’s nuclear industry, which continues to generate huge revenues.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Shmyhal, the parties discussed a wide range of issues, including financial support, Ukraine’s reconstruction, establishing a special tribunal for the Russian leadership, and strengthening sanctions pressure.

Shmyhal thanked the U.S. Congress for allocating more than USD 13 billion for 2023 to provide economic and budgetary support for Ukraine. At the same time, the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed the need to exhaust the aggressor’s military budget, namely to introduce sanctions against Russia’s nuclear industry that continues to generate huge revenues for Russian terrorists.

Shmyhal noted that Ukraine highly appreciates the aid provided by international partners at a time when Ukrainians continue fighting and defending their native land against Russian aggression.

“I am convinced that Ukraine can continue to rely on the strong support of the U.S. Congress,” Shmyhal added.
