The European Union will launch a EUR 25 million humanitarian demining program for the de-occupied territories of Ukraine.

"We’ve agreed that the EU will launch a EUR 25 million humanitarian demining program. This is an important component of our recovery which will make it possible to restore normal life in the communities liberated from Russian terrorists," Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced after a meeting with EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell ahead of the Ukraine-EU Summit in Kyiv.

The Prime Minister also thanked Borrell for consistent support for Ukraine, an increase in the European Peace Facility budget by EUR 2 billion, and a training mission for the Ukrainian military.

The Head of Government added that Ukraine expects the training mission to be expanded.

Shmyhal also pointed out the importance to continue putting pressure on the Russian economy and to impose the 10th package of European sanctions, which, in particular, should target the nuclear sector and the Rosatom state company.

As reported, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell arrived in Kyiv to participate in the high-level events that will take place today and tomorrow in the capital of Ukraine. A meeting of the College of EU Commissioners headed by Ursula von der Leyen with the Government of Ukraine will be held today in Kyiv. The participants will discuss the support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, the coordination of efforts to restore Ukraine, the continuation of key reforms, and Ukraine's future EU membership.
