Maasikas outlines issues to be discussed at Ukraine-EU summit

Military situation, President Zelensky's peace plan, and support for Ukraine from partners will be discussed at the Ukraine-EU Summit.

"First of all, there is a signal of solidarity with Ukraine. Of course, the military situation and President Zelensky's peace plan backed by the EU are among the issues that will be discussed. We see delays in providing assistance to Ukraine in military, economic, financial, humanitarian, and energy areas, etc.," Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Matti Maasikas told journalists, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Maasikas, Brussels discusses Ukraine's progress in working on EU recommendations related to granting the EU candidate status.

"So the range of issues is quite large," the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine said.

He also noted that the speed of any integration process depends primarily on the candidate's actions, in particular on how quickly EU legislation will be adopted and implemented. The assessment of Ukraine's implementation progress is ongoing.

As reported, Ukraine-EU Summit will take place on February 3.

In June 2022, the European Commission recommended granting Ukraine the EU candidate status subject to the implementation of seven recommendations related to fighting corruption and money laundering, adopting anti-oligarchic legislation and a new law on mass media, ensuring the rights of national minorities, carrying out constitutional, anti-corruption and judicial reforms.
