Borrell urges Iran to stop military assistance to Russia

EU High Representative Josep Borrell at a meeting with Iran’s top diplomat demanded that Tehran immediately cease military assistance to Russia and stressed the need to return to talks on Iran’s nuclear program.

Borrell addressed the issue on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

“Necessary meeting w Iranian FM @Amirabdolahian in Jordan amidst deteriorating Iran-EU relations. Stressed need to immediately stop military support to Russia and internal repression in Iran. Agreed we must keep communication open and restore #JCPOA on basis of Vienna negotiations,” the tweet reads.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, the EU has already applied two sanction packages on Iran related to Tehran supplying Russia with kamikaze drones that the latter uses against Ukraine. Sanctions that include asset freeze, halt to any funding, and EU entry bans, cover five entities and seven individuals, involved in such supplies.
