Latvia cancels license of exiled Russian TV channel Dozhd

The Latvian National Electronic Media Council (NEPLP) has decided to revoke the broadcasting license of the independent Russian exiled TV channel Dozhd (Rain).

That's according to the national broadcaster LSM, Ukrinform reports.

NEPLP Chairman Ivars Abolins said the decision to revoke the channel's license had been made in connection with the threat to national security and public order.

NEPLP on Tuesday morning gathered for a meeting to assess the situation related to the Russian TV channel. Abolins earlier urged politicians not to politicize this issue, leaving the decision-making to the competent authorities.

On December 2, Dozhd was fined EUR 10,000 for using a map of Russia with Ukraine's Moscow-occupied Crimea on it and calling Russian forces invading Ukraine "our army."
