Lithuania ready to support Ukraine on its EU, NATO membership path - parliament speaker

Lithuania is ready to support Ukraine on its path of integration into the European Union and NATO.

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, the Speaker of the Seimas, said this at a joint briefing with Olena Kondratiuk, Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in Irpin on Thursday, November 10, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Now Ukraine is fighting not only for its freedom, but also for the freedom of Europe. I am sure that the Ukrainian state will become part of the European Union. We are ready to provide support in this process, as well as in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. We see Ukraine as a full member of the European Union. We see Ukraine as a prosperous, free, democratic country. We will work to mobilize all our support to make this happen," she said.

Čmilytė-Nielsen noted that Lithuania and the Lithuanian parliament stand with Ukraine and will continue to support it. In this context, she said that Lithuania would contribute to the fair punishment of all war criminals who terrorize the Ukrainian state and civilians.

Kondratiuk, in turn, thanked the Lithuanian delegation for the visit to Ukraine. She noted that Lithuania demonstrates an absolute leadership in supporting Ukraine at the political, economic and security levels.

In particular, she expressed her gratitude for the support of the Seimas of Lithuania for a resolution recognizing Russia as a terrorist state. In addition, she thanked for the economic support, as well as the support of Ukraine's energy system, which is suffering from Russian terrorist attacks. Kondratiuk expressed hope that such cooperation would continue.
