President appoints Vasyl Maliuk as SBU acting chief

President Volodymyr Zelensky assigned temporary duties of the chief of the Security Service of Ukraine to Vasyl Maliuk.

Corresponding decree No. 504/2022 was published on the website of the Head of State.

"Vasyl Maliuk, First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, is assigned to temporarily perform the duties of the Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine," the document states.

On July 17, President Volodymyr Zelensky suspended Ivan Bakanov, Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine, from his duties and removed Iryna Venediktova from the post of Prosecutor General.

Andriy Smyrnov, Deputy Head of the President's Office, explained that the President’s decision did not mean the dismissal of officials. Official checks will be carried out, after which the President will decide whether to file an appropriate motion at the parliament.
