Russia creates legal basis for further armed aggression against Ukraine – Zelensky

By its decision to recognize the independence of the so-called "DPR" and "LPR," Russia creates a legal basis for further armed aggression against Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this at a joint press conference with President of Estonia Alar Karis, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"This is a new act of aggression against Ukraine, which requires an immediate decisive response from international partners, the international community. I believe that by its decision, the Russian Federation creates a legal basis for further armed aggression against the state of Ukraine, violating all possible bilateral and multilateral obligations, the UN Security Council resolution on Ukraine of February 17, 2015," Zelensky said.

According to him, the escalation by Russia is an unprecedented challenge not only for Ukraine but also for Europe and the world as a whole.

As Ukrinform reported, on February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of two self-proclaimed entities in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.
