Biden, Italian PM discuss sanctions against Russia if it further invades Ukraine

U.S. President Joe Biden and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi in a phone conversation discussed ongoing diplomatic and deterrence efforts in response to Russia’s continued military build-up on Ukraine’s border.

Ukrinform reports this with reference to a press release issued by the White House.

The leaders reaffirmed readiness to impose severe sanctions against Russia if it further invades Ukraine.

“They reaffirmed their commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and their readiness to impose severe economic costs on Russia if it further invades Ukraine,” the press release says.

As Ukrinform reported, on February 15, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Prime Minister of Italy Mario Draghi discussed further steps towards a peaceful settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine.
