G7 ambassadors disappointed by failure to appoint SAPO head

G7 ambassadors are disappointed by the refusal of members of the selection committee for the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) to determine the winner of the competition.

That's according to the Twitter account of the UK Presidency of the G7 Ambassadors' Support Group in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

"G7 Ambassadors are disappointed by the refusal of the Rada-appointed members of the Selection Committee for the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor to certify the winning candidate. This further delay is unjustified & contradicts Ukraine's commitments to appoint a permanent head," the tweet said.

The ambassadors also encouraged the selection committee to reconvene as soon as possible to certify the process.

"SAPO, like all independent anti-corruption institutions, needs strengthening to deliver the rule of law and effective fight against corruption," the ambassadors said.

On December 21, the selection committee for the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office announced a rating of candidates for the positions of the head and deputy head of the agency. Among the candidates for the post of the SAPO head, a detective of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, Oleksandr Klymenko, scored 246 points, and a prosecutor of the Prosecutor General's Office, Andrii Syniuk, collected 229 points.

At the same time, on December 20, Kyiv's District Administrative Court decided to block the competition for the selection of the SAPO head.
