Michel: EU unanimously agree to roll over economic sanctions against Russia

The EU unanimously agreed to roll over economic sanctions against Russia and urged it to comply with the Minsk Agreements.

“Massive consequences and severe cost will follow if Russia takes further military action against Ukraine. European Council leaders unanimously agreed to roll over economic sanctions against Russia,” President of the European Council Charles Michel posted on Twitter.

The EU calls on Russia to keep its part of the bargain and proceed with Minsk implementation, he noted.

As reported, on December 16, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the security situation along Ukraine's borders and in the temporarily occupied territories, condemning the military build-up of Russian forces around Ukraine and calling on Russia to withdraw its troops and adhere to its international obligations.

The document suggests that the EU should establish a Global Anti-Corruption Sanctions Mechanism which will strengthen control over Russia's assets and investments of dubious origin and consistently enforce the existing anti-money-laundering directives.
