Ukraine's culture minister tenders resignation

Oleksandr Tkachenko has submitted a letter of resignation from the post of Ukraine's minister for culture and information policy.

According to Ukrinform, he announced this on Facebook.

"Today I submitted my resignation letter to Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk," Tkachenko wrote.

He said the reason behind such a decision was a lack of funding in the field of culture.

"They write that the last straw for me was the transfer of the Ukrainian State Film Agency [to the control of the Cabinet of Ministers]. I will mention one more, no less painful issue. It's the budget for culture for 2022. Both the nature of the discussion and the final amount are unacceptable to me," Tkachenko said.

He also added that the government's decision on the Ukrainian State Film Agency was made without the consent of the Ministry for Culture and Information Policy.

The Verkhovna Rada appointed Tkachenko as Ukraine's minister for culture and information policy on June 4, 2020.
