Latvia to initiate Crimea Platform’s development within UN

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgar Rinkēvičs assures that the leadership of the Republic of Latvia has specific ideas for the Crimea Platform development, in particular within the UN.

"Now we have specific ideas for the development of the Crimea Platform. The initiator is President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits. He is an extremely qualified lawyer, a former judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights. Levits would like to uphold the focus set by the Crimea Platform within the UN. We need to constantly highlight the importance of the policy of non-recognition of the occupation," Rinkēvičs said in an interview with Ukrinform.

According to the politician, efforts must be made to nail down the non-recognition of the occupation of Crimea as a legal and political fact, "this issue must be constantly talked about, raised within the UN, the OSCE, and other regional organizations."

As reported, the Saeima of Latvia is also ready for active work within the framework of the Crimea Platform. In particular, it is planned to organize a large international conference on the occupation of Crimea as an example of a violation of international law.
