Zelensky compares his presidency to “startup,” calls on others to join politics

President Volodymyr Zelensky believes business leaders should engage in politics to help the country, and compared his presidency to a kind of startup.

The statement came as the president was speaking at a panel show on 1+1 TV, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukrainians, the prominent ones we see here, need to take risks, and when I talk about risks, which we compare to stability, I say that this is exactly the risk: business (leaders – ed.) must go into politics and help the country if they want to live here. .. It seems to me that this is the first area where we can unite: just go into politics," Zelensky said.

At the same time, he stressed that participation in political life entails great risks and responsibilities.

"All of us who risked our lives and careers and went into politics – I’m not complaining and never will – but you understand, these are great risks, so we need to support such people. Isn’t it like a startup? Isn’t it the first time when this is not some fat politician who’s made millions?... The man goes there for the first time, and everyone wants to devour this man. I’m sorry, but if you show no support, if you don't trust them, they have zero chances," Zelensky added.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky is convinced that Ukraine's investment attractiveness dropped some time ago due to campaigns aiming to compromise it, in which other countries and businesses are interested.
