Ukrainian, Lithuanian presidents discusses security situation on Belarusian-Lithuanian border

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation with President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda on Monday evening, according to the Ukrainian President’s Office.

“The President of Ukraine thanked his Lithuanian counterpart for providing Ukraine with another batch of AstraZeneca vaccine. For his part, Gitanas Nausėda thanked Volodymyr Zelensky for the decision to provide humanitarian aid to protect the Lithuanian border,” reads the report.

The leaders discussed the current security situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, which has developed due to a significant increase in the number of illegal migrants. The President of Lithuania noted that a relative stabilization had been achieved on this issue.

The interlocutors also coordinated high-level bilateral dialogue activities for the near future. Zelensky acquainted his Lithuanian counterpart with the preparations of large-scale events to be held in Kyiv on August 23-24 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.

Separately, the Presidents discussed the state of implementation of joint cultural and humanitarian projects. Nausėda praised the implementation by the Ukrainian side of an important project to restore the tombstone of Prince Konstanty Ostrogski in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

As Ukrinform reported, on August 12, Ukraine sent humanitarian aid to the Republic of Lithuania to strengthen border protection from illegal migrants.
