Ukraine to donate barbed wire to Lithuania to protect its border with Belarus

Lithuania requested Ukraine to provide humanitarian aid in the form of barbed wire to strengthen the border due to a critical increase in the number of illegal migrants entering the country from Belarus.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba made a corresponding announcement at the Cabinet’s meeting on July 28, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"From January 1 to July 27, the number of illegal migrants entering the territory of Lithuania from the territory of Belarus increased critically at the Lithuania–Belarus state border. In this regard, the Lithuanian side, experiencing the lack of technical means of border management, requested Ukraine to provide humanitarian assistance in the form of barbed wire to strengthen the border," Kuleba said, submitting a draft presidential decree on humanitarian assistance to the Republic of Lithuania to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration.

The government officials were asked to support this project as Lithuania is a friend of our country and always supports Ukraine in crisis situations.

At the suggestion of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, the Cabinet of Ministers endorsed the draft decree with revision within one day.
