Zelensky: ‘Industrial visa-free regime’ should become Ukraine-EU success story

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has said he expects that the first results of negotiations on updating the tariff part of the Association Agreement will be summed up as soon as by the next Ukraine-EU summit.

He stated this in his speech at the Ukraine Reform Conference in Vilnius on July 7, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We want to update the Association Agreement. Dynamic changes in the legislation of the European Union and the conditions of our bilateral trade require us to be creative and flexible. This process was initiated at the previous Ukraine-EU summit. By the next summit, we have to sum up the first results of negotiations on updating the tariff part of the agreement," Zelensky said, adding that this is a minimum what should be done.

In addition, according to Zelensly, the so-called “industrial visa-free regime” [Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products] should become a joint success story of Ukraine and the EU.

"Ukrainian producers are waiting for the simplification of trade in industrial products. The conclusions of the report of the previous EU assessment mission are quite optimistic, and the coronavirus pandemic should not prevent this goal,” the President stressed.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky is on an official visit to the Republic of Lithuania on July 6-7.

The previous, 22nd Ukraine-EU Summit took place on October 6, 2020 in Brussels. The next summit is scheduled for October 12, 2021 in Kyiv.
