Zelensky, presidents of Lithuania and EU Council discuss security situation in region

During the trilateral talks with President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has stressed the invariability of Ukraine's strategic course towards full membership in the European Union.

The meeting was held as part of the official visit of Zelensky to Lithuania, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Telegram channel of the President's Office.

“The EU and the EU member states exchanged views on the importance of fixing Ukraine's European perspective and further supporting this ambitious goal. The President of Ukraine praised the fact that Lithuania became the first EU country to conclude a bilateral declaration with Ukraine," reads the report.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to discussing the security situation in the region, especially in the context of the buildup of Russian troops and weapons along the Ukrainian state border, as well as in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Zelensky thanked Lithuania and the leadership of the European Union for their clear position on the inadmissibility of resuming the EU-Russia dialogue at the highest level in the context of Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine. The President informed his interlocutors about the preparations for the inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform, which is scheduled for August 23, 2021 in Kyiv. He noted the importance of this event to draw the attention of the international community to the occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky is on an official visit to the Republic of Lithuania on July 6-7.
