Crimean Platform should protect citizens living in occupied territories – Korynevych

The Crimean Platform should have both external and internal tracks so that Ukraine can protect its citizens living in the occupied territories.

Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Anton Korynevych said this at the All-Ukrainian Forum “Ukraine 30. International Relations” on July 6, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"As for the Crimean Platform, we should say that there must be an internal track, which will consist of relations with human rights and non-governmental organizations, local authorities and governments at various levels, and state bodies of Ukraine in order to have proper departmental coordination in the implementation of certain projects," Korynevych said.

According to him, the Crimean Platform, as one of the tools of the Strategy for De-occupation and Reintegration of Crimea and Sevastopol, should control the work with citizens of Ukraine living in the temporarily occupied territories.

He also stressed the importance of working with the families of political prisoners in Crimea, and providing them with support and assistance.

The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the efficiency of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, step up international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the de-occupation of Crimea.

The first Crimean Platform summit is scheduled for August 23, 2021.
