Parliament renames Novhorodske village in Donetsk region to New York

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has approved a resolution renaming the village of Novhorodske in Donetsk region to New York.

A total of 301 MPs voted in favor of the relevant resolution on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The document renames the village of Novhorodske, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region to New York.

According to the explanatory note, the renaming of Novhorodske was initiated by its residents in order to return to the village its historical name.

The village of New York was renamed to Novhorodske by the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on October 19, 1951.
