Zelensky thanks G7 leaders for support for Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the leaders of the G7 countries for their support for Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty, which is expressed in a joint communique on the results of the G7 summit held in the UK, according to the Ukrainian President’s Office.

"I’m grateful to the leaders of Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Italy, USA, France, Japan and the EU for the continued support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and the call to the aggressor to withdraw troops from our eastern borders and Crimea. Crimea is Ukraine," the Ukrainian president emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, the G7 leaders called on Russia “to alleviate tensions and act in accordance with its international obligations, and to withdraw the Russian military troops and materiel at the eastern border of Ukraine and on the Crimean peninsula”.

The G7 leaders reiterated their support for “the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders”.

The G7 leaders also affirmed their support for the Normandy Process to secure the implementation of the Minsk agreements, and “called on Russia and the armed formations it backs to engage constructively and recommit to the ceasefire”.  

The G7 summit took place in the UK on June 11-13.
