Honorary Consulate of Latvia opens in Sloviansk

The official opening of an Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in the city of Sloviansk, Donetsk region, took place on April 30, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Sloviansk City Council.

The solemn event was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Juris Poikans, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Saeima (Parliament) of the Republic of Latvia Rihards Kols, Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko, Honorary Consul of the Consulate Oleksandr Pavenko, Deputy Mayor Yuriy Pidlisnyi, representatives of the JFO command, representatives of the district state administration, city and district councils, the public and the media.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to Ukraine Marek Šafin was among the guests.

The Consulate of Latvia in Sloviansk became the first foreign Honorary Consulate in Donetsk region since 2014. As Kyrylenko noted at the opening ceremony, this will serve a good example for the international integration of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Representatives of Latvia stated that the opening of the consulate would promote the development of relations between Ukraine and Latvia in general and between the cities of Donetsk region in particular.

All those present thanked the defenders of Ukraine for the opportunity to open the consulate in Sloviansk.
