Zelensky endorses Ukraine's accession to Inter-American Convention

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed the Law "On Ukraine's Accession to the Inter-American Convention on Proof of and Information on Foreign Law."

"By this law, the Parliament of Ukraine gave its consent to accession to the Inter-American Convention on Proof of and Information on Foreign Law, concluded in Montevideo on May 8, 1979. The purpose of the Convention is to establish rules governing international cooperation among member states in obtaining proof of and information on the legislation of each of them," the press service of the Head of State informs.

In particular, the Convention provides for the possibility for the judicial authorities of the parties to request information on the text, validity, content and scope of legislation on specific issues, for other institutions – to request copies of texts of legal acts indicating their validity or court precedents; expert opinion which consists of the opinion of lawyers or experts.

The Convention enters into force in Ukraine on the thirtieth day after the deposit of the instrument of accession.

The Verkhovna Rada passed the law on Ukraine's accession to the Inter-American Convention on Proof of and Information on Foreign Law on March 2.
