Lithuanian president urges to strengthen sanctions against Russia

Lithuania does not see Russia's attempts to end the war in Donbas; therefore it calls on democratic countries to strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation.

President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda said this at a joint briefing with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on March 18, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We see Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the growing number of violations [in Donbas]. Lithuania has always supported and supports Ukraine's attempts to fight the aggressor ... We are in favor of the implementation of the Normandy agreements, but we cannot calmly look at the fact that Russia is not fulfilling its obligations. We see no attempts by Russia to end the war in Donbas. Therefore, we call on democracies to strengthen sanctions against Russia,” Nausėda said.

He also assured that Lithuania consistently supports cooperation between Ukraine and NATO and welcomes reforms in Ukraine.
