Ukraine, Romania interested in intensifying political dialogue and security cooperation

Ukraine and Romania are interested in intensifying political dialogue at the highest and high levels, as well as cooperation in order to strengthen regional security.

These issues were discussed at a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar and Romanian Ambassador to Ukraine Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service reported.

"The interlocutors discussed ways of developing Ukrainian-Romanian relations both on a bilateral basis and within international organizations. They gave priority to intensifying political dialogue at the highest and high levels, as well as cooperation between the two countries to strengthen regional security," the statement reads.

The deputy minister informed about the progress in preparation of the draft law of Ukraine on national minorities, the formation of a new Ukrainian delegation to the bilateral commission on ensuring the rights of persons belonging to national minorities. Bodnar confirmed the intention of the Ukrainian side to resume the activities of this commission as soon as possible after the completion of institutional changes in the structure of the executive bodies of Ukraine responsible for this area.

The parties also reaffirmed the importance of developing the infrastructure of the joint Ukrainian-Romanian state border.
