USA, UK should join Normandy format – Yatsenyuk

The United States and the United Kingdom should join the Normandy format as signatories to the Budapest Memorandum.

Chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum, Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2014-2016 Arseniy Yatsenyuk said this during the presentation of a joint address by Ukrainian and U.S. figures entitled "Twelve Points to Strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the United States and Ukraine," Ukrinform reports with reference to the KSF press service.

Yatsenyuk stressed that the signatories appeal to the United States on the need for more active participation in the Normandy format. He recalled that in 2014 there was a Geneva format, in which the United States was present.

The KSF chairman also drew a historical parallel with the Normandy landing of Allied troops in 1944. “Then the path to the liberation of Europe began. Today, in the new Normandy format, where there are France and Germany, there must be a way to liberate Europe from Russian imperial aggression. And in this format, as in 1944, the United States of America and the United Kingdom should be present as signatories to the Budapest Memorandum,” the politician said.

He is convinced that our allies "must stand side by side with Ukraine in order to return peace to the territory of Ukraine on Ukrainian terms."

As reported, the address entitled "Twelve Points to Strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the United States and Ukraine" was presented during the Kyiv Security Forum organized by Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation. It was signed by over 70 Ukrainian and U.S. politicians, diplomats and experts.
