Kuleba: Russian president won’t be happy about US joining Normandy format

Full-fledged participation of the United States in the Normandy format is possible only with the consent of all its participants, but Russia is unlikely to give it.

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said this on the air of the Freedom of Speech TV program.

He noted that since 2014, the United States has supported Ukraine in counteracting Russian aggression, has been active in attempts to resolve the conflict in Donbas, and has taken a clear stance on the occupation of Crimea.

"Therefore, I have every reason to believe and predict that the United States will be even more active on this track, but a format it will take place in is a matter of negotiations. As for the full participation of the United States in the Normandy format, let us remember that there is one person who will not be happy about such participation, namely the President of the Russian Federation. And the format cannot be expanded at the request of individual participants, it can be changed only by consensus," Kuleba said.

The Normandy format is a level of meetings between representatives of Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia to discuss the issues related to Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
