Ukrainian MPs, Secretary General of Council of Europe discuss Crimean Platform

Representatives of the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić.

The meeting took place during the PACE winter session in Strasbourg, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"During the meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the PACE raised important issues for the Ukrainian side, including the expansion of the Crimean Platform and its support by the Council of Europe, execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, activity of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine," the Permanent Representation of Ukraine to the Council of Europe posted on Facebook.

In addition, the parties discussed the human rights situation in Belarus.

The PACE winter session is being held in Strasbourg on January 25-28.

As reported, the Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the efficiency of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, step up international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupying power and to achieve the de-occupation of Crimea and its return to Ukraine.

The Crimean Platform is expected to operate at the level of heads of state and government, foreign ministers, in the dimension of inter-parliamentary cooperation and expert network.
