Ukraine withdraws from CIS antimonopoly policy treaty

On November 26, Ukraine quitted the Treaty on the Implementation of the Coordinated Antimonopoly Policy of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The law on Ukraine’s withdrawal from the Treaty has been published in the Ukrainian parliament's Holos Ukrainy newspaper on November 25.

According to the document, Ukraine withdraws from the Treaty on the Implementation of the Coordinated Antimonopoly Policy, signed at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Moscow on January 25, 2000, and ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with reservations by Law No. 449-IV as of January 16, 2003.

The Treaty envisages mechanisms for information exchange, so there is a risk that the CIS member states will receive information that can be used to exert trade and economic pressure on Ukraine.

The withdrawal from the Treaty will protect the national economic interests of Ukraine, eliminating the mechanism that determines the interstate exchange of information on economic issues.

As reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the Law “On Withdrawal from the Treaty on the Implementation of the Coordinated Antimonopoly Policy”, No.995-IX, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on November 5.
