Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said during his working visit to Bucharest that Ukraine will open a new consulate in Romania in the city of Sighetu Marmatiei, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service has reported.

According to the report, during his working visit to Romania, Kuleba met with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Romania and announced the decision to open a new Ukrainian consulate given the importance of Ukrainian-Romanian relations and the need to support the Ukrainian community of Romania.

"I have decided to open a consulate in the city of Sighetu Marmatiei. I know that this is an important, key place for Ukrainians in Romania. The new consulate will create access to quality services and become a tool for better cooperation with you to preserve our culture and strengthen Ukraine's relations with Romania," Kuleba said.

He also thanked Ukrainians in Romania for preserving Ukraine's national identity, culture and traditions, and noted their invaluable assistance in promoting and protecting Ukraine's interests abroad.

In addition, Kuleba invited representatives of the Ukrainian community in Romania to join the development of a new Foreign Ministry policy on Ukrainians living abroad.

"Ukraine needs a new effective policy towards Ukrainians abroad. Diasporas are changing, expanding territorially, new communities are being added. We at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have started to work on a new policy, which we will be able to submit for consideration by the leadership of the state. I want not only the state but also foreign Ukrainians to take part in its development. I invite a representative of your community to take part in its development together with the team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he said.

According to him, the agency that will develop a new policy on Ukrainians abroad should include people who understand the problems and know how to solve them.

Kuleba also handed over an award - the Order of Merit (third class) - to Chairman of the Union of Ukrainians of Romania Nicolae-Miroslav Petretchi from the president of Ukraine for his contribution to preserving and developing the Ukrainian community.
