Local election campaign officially starts in Ukraine

The local election campaign has officially started in Ukraine today, September 5.

The elections of heads and deputies of village, town and city councils will be held under the new Electoral Code, which envisages a new territorial structure and number of voters in each community.

Thus, in territorial communities with the number of voters totaling less than 10,000, deputes of village, town, city councils will be elected under a majority electoral system in multi-member constituencies. In each such constituency, at least two and no more than four deputies can be elected.

In territorial communities with the number of voters totaling more than 10,000, deputes of village, town, city councils will be elected under a proportional electoral system in line with open electoral lists of political party local organizations in territorial election constituencies.

In addition, in the 2020 local elections, it is mandatory to adhere to a gender quota when forming party lists: there must be at least two women among every five candidates on the electoral list.

The voting will take place on October 25, from 08:00 to 20:00. The Central Election Commission will announce election results on November 3-6.
