President Sommaruga: Switzerland helps population on both sides of demarcation line in Donbas

Switzerland, as agreed with Ukraine, helps civilians on both sides of demarcation line in Donbas.

"Since the conflict is a violation of international humanitarian law, we are making every effort to help the civilian population affected by this conflict," President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga said at a joint press conference with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky following bilateral talks in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Switzerland helps civilians living on both sides of the demarcation line and is happy it can do so in agreement with Ukraine, President Sommaruga clarified.

She added that Switzerland supported the peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine and took measures to provide humanitarian assistance to the civilian population, in particular, to help get access to clean drinking water.

On July 20-23, President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga makes a state visit to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The program of the visit includes face-to-face talks and negotiations as part of delegations. It is planned to discuss a wide range of issues of bilateral Ukraine-Switzerland relations, as well as cooperation at the international level.

During the visit, Zelensky and Sommaruga are expected to make a joint working visit to Donbas to get acquainted with the security and socio-economic situation in the region and the progress of implementation of Swiss humanitarian aid projects.
